Clean House Tips for the Places You Don’t Clean Regularly.
Even if you take it upon yourself to perform a deep cleaning throughout your home, there always seems to be at least a few places you miss. In the past, we’ve covered many different types of clean house tips, but today, we’re going to cover some of the most common areas that people forget to clean.
Small Appliances It’s easy to miss small appliances because they’re often tucked away or off to the side. Items such as a coffee maker, blender, and toaster can harbor germs and other contaminants. Make sure you clean out their crevices and any detachable parts such as the tray under the toaster or filter cup in the coffee maker.
Under Appliances
When doing routine cleaning, many of us skip looking under the appliances. We don’t want to know what’s under there! It isn’t uncommon for floors under refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, and dryers to be caked with dust and grime. Be sure to move these items and clean underneath them.
Microwaves
Even when you cover your food every time you use the microwave, it may not take too long before the inside is an absolute mess. One of our favorite clean house tips is to mix either vinegar, lemon juice, or baking soda in a bowl of water and heat it up for 3- 5 minutes. This will loosen the stuck-on food.
Patio Furniture
Since patio furniture is outside, it often gets neglected. In addition to wiping it down, with a microfiber cloth, you need to move each piece and clean underneath it. Don’t be surprised if you find a bunch of little dust bunnies waiting for you.
Shower Curtain
Due to the high rate of moisture in your bathroom, it isn’t unusual for people to miss mold and mildew that’s accumulated on their shower curtain. Left unattended, this could present a health hazard, especially if someone in your household has a respiratory issue.
Faucets and Showerheads
After a while, your sink faucets and showerheads will fill up with hard water deposits, which will impede the flow of water. Most of these can be taken apart and cleaned on both the inside and outside. If not, then use something thin like a toothpick or pin to dislodge contaminants in the tiny holes.
Garbage Cans
Taking out the garbage to remove germs and prevent insects from gathering might not do a lot of good if liquids have leaked into the bottom. Each time you clean your kitchen and bathroom, make sure that you use hot, soapy water or a spray cleaner to get rid of any dirt and grime. Picture Frames
If you’re a fan of hanging up posters or setting up picture frames of your family and friends, then you’ve no doubt realized how dust settles on top and on the edge at the bottom. The good news is that this is a simple fix. Grab your microfiber cloth and wipe them down.
Children’s Toys
It’s time to face a simple fact – children are filthy. Even if a child washes his or her hands on a regular basis, their toys will still be subjected to tons of germs and lots of grime. It’s also common for toys to have many little crevices, so make sure you wipe down each one.
Device Screens
If there’s one thing that’s worse than the germs and grime found on a child’s toy, it’s what can accumulate on a device’s screen. You should wipe down your TV and computer screens every week or so, but this is especially true of the items where we touch the screen such as tablets and phones.
TV Remotes
Here’s another thing that most people touch on a regular basis. The oils on our hands make it even easier for germs and contaminants to collect on a remote control’s surface. This is often missed, but it’s important because once we touch the remote, it’s easy to transmit germs elsewhere.
Switches and Outlets
Light switches and electrical outlets can also get covered by the oils on our fingers, which allows them to more collect dust. You don’t have to worry about the electrical current in modern homes, but if you want to be extra cautious, flip the appropriate switch in the circuit breaker before cleaning.
Ceiling Fans
The importance of cleaning your ceiling fans cannot be overstated. When you don’t use a fan for a while, it doesn’t take long for a thick layer of dust to accumulate. If there’s a lot of dust on top when you turn it on, some of it will be spread into the air.
Throw Pillows
It’s common practice for us to wash the pillows on our bed every time we clean our sheets and blankets. The throw pillows on our couches or sofas often go untouched. This is especially important if you lean against these pillows when watching TV, but they should be cleaned regardless.
Shower/Sink Drains Nobody likes the idea of cleaning out sink and shower drains because – let’s be truthful here – they’re disgusting. This is why cleaning them is so essential. They fill up with hair, germs, dirt, and other contaminants, which can make people sick if they’re exposed.
Computer Keyboards If you use a computer or laptop, then you’re aware of how grimy the keyboards get can. You never want to use a damp cloth because there’s a good chance you’ll damage it. Instead, use an alcohol-based cleaner or wipe because the alcohol will evaporate almost immediately. Contact Maid Impressions for More Clean House Tips
