When the holidays start creeping up and schedules get busier, fall becomes the ideal time to reset your home. But while most people remember the basics, like vacuuming and wiping down surfaces, there are plenty of overlooked tasks that make a big difference in how your home looks and feels.
Our team put together a cleaning checklist focused on the things most people skip, especially helpful if you’re in Tampa or nearby, where the weather stays warm and humid well into the season.
Clean the Areas You Walk Right Past
It’s easy to miss the areas you see every day. Entryways, baseboards, and high-touch door frames collect dirt slowly, making buildup less noticeable until it’s really noticeable.
A few spots to check:
- Baseboards in hallways and living rooms
- Door handles and light switches
- Entryway floors, mats, and rugs
- Closet doors and corners that collect dust
Between our cleaning sessions, give these areas a quick wipe-down or vacuum. You’ll be surprised how much fresher everything feels once they’re clean.
Refresh the Air You’re Breathing
Even in Florida, we spend more time indoors as the days get shorter. Now’s the time to give your home’s air quality a boost. Our local AC friends suggest you start by replacing air filters, especially if you’ve had the AC running all summer long.
Then, clean ceiling fans and vents. Dust builds up fast and spreads through your home every time air circulates. Don’t forget to:
- Vacuum around vents and grilles
- Wipe fan blades with a microfiber cloth
- Check exhaust fans in bathrooms and kitchens
If your allergies tend to flare up this time of year, tackling these hidden dust zones can really help. And don’t worry, we clean those periodically, and when we do a deep clean.
Don’t Forget the Forgotten Places
Some cleaning tasks just don’t cross your mind until you have guests coming over. Fall is a great time to give extra attention to these spots:
- Behind and underneath furniture
- Inside kitchen cabinets and drawers
- Tops of picture frames and crown molding
- Under couch cushions and along edges
We’re a bit clean-obsessed, but it’s not about making everything perfect — just removing the hidden dust and grime that’s been sitting there all summer.
Get Your Appliances Holiday-Ready
If you plan to host, bake, or just enjoy your favorite autumnal meals, now’s the time to clean the tools you’ll rely on too.
We’ll clean the oven and stovetop (even if you rarely use them, gunk builds up). We’ll clean the outside of the fridge, and inside of the microwave. But other items to tidy up includes:
- Refrigerator shelves and drawers
- Dishwasher filter and spray arms
A clean kitchen makes cooking feel easier and keeps those seasonal scents — like cinnamon or pumpkin — from clashing with burnt crumbs.
Think About the Outside, Too
Even if you don’t have falling leaves to rake, your home’s exterior can still use attention. This is the perfect time to:
- Rinse off outdoor furniture before storing or covering it. A good pressure wash can make the space feel new again.
- Clean sliding glass door tracks
- Wipe down outdoor light fixtures
- Look for stucco cracks so you can patch & paint before
- Clear out gutters, especially after late summer storms
